About the Project

The Goal of ZigZag: Real Stories, New Angles:

The project is a tool to broaden the discussion of transportation, land use and environmental issues that affect our lives. Through the broadcast, Web site, community screenings and related media and community outreach activities, the producers hope to spark communication between neighbors, families and communities.

The Filmmakers:

Beth Harrington, Executive Producer: Beth's extensive filmography only begins to describe the broad range of subjects she has documented through her work. As a producer, director and writer for over 20 years she has worked on both coasts, presenting personal and historical stories to a broad range of audiences. The quality of her work has been recognized by her peers and by agencies providing grants in the Northwest and the Northeast. Recently she was nominated for a Grammy award for her documentary "Welcome to the Club - The Women of Rockabilly".

Brad Smith, Executive Producer: Brad is founder and president of Hot Pepper Studios, a creative services and design studio that produces film, print, web and interactive content for entertainment, education and corporate clients. An independent producer, Smith has worked in the industry for 14 years, and produces award-winning web sites and broadcast pieces for Oregon Public Broadcasting and the Public Broadcasting Service.

Program funding

"ZigZag: Real Stories, New Angles" is funded by Metro, the regional government, through a grant from the Federal Highway Administration and additional funding from the Port of Portland, the Portland Office of Transportation, the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality, the Oregon Department of Land Conservation and Development, the Oregon Department of Transportation, Tualatin Valley Television, Ecumenical Ministries of Oregon and the Regional Arts and Culture Council.
