ZigZag Premiere

Portland, March 12, 2004 – A lively crowd filled the Hollywood Theatre to preview "ZigZag: Real Stories. New Angles," a half hour documentary on transportation. As attendees arrived by bike, car and MAX, the red carpet was rolled out for the stars of the show, many of which arrived via a TriMet VIP bus. Al Higgins, Marjorie Halford and Lavonne Blowers walked made their grand entrance under the marquee that promoted their stories about the everyday challenges of getting from point A to point B.

As the audience looked over the transportation options displays in the lobby, the band Trashcan Joe played songs from the ZigZag show’s soundtrack on the main stage against a slideshow that featured the folks that were a part of the project. OPB's Steve Amen (host of Oregon Field Guide) greeted the audience and spoke about the history and making of the documentary. "ZigZag" producers Brad Smith and Beth Harrington introduced the program and two short films, "Scooter Nation" and "Hmong Friends." Each story in the "ZigZag" program earned a big round of applause from the audience and the program as a whole received stellar reviews in the post-screening audience survey.

"It was a treat to see so many people attend the premiere," said Brad Smith, "The project was seven years in the making and really captured the real issues behind our transportation choices – it’s not a simple solution, but as we saw in the film, everyone can do something".

"ZigZag: Real Stories, New Angles" will be broadcast on April 21, 2004 on Oregon Public Broadcasting.
